Sexual Problems:

Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction, sometimes called "impotence," is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. The word "impotence" may also be used to describe other problems that interfere with sexual intercourse and reproduction such as lack of sexual desire and problems with ejaculation or orgasm. Erectile dysfunction or ED can be a total inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. In various estimation studies, 15 million to 30 million people worldwide are affected with ED to some extent. According to NAMCS in 1985,for every 1,000 men in the United States, 7.7 had visited physicians for ED. By 1999, this rate had nearly tripled to 22.3. There had been gradual rise in ED cases and treatments such as using vacuum devices and injectable drugs became more widely available. Perhaps the most publicized therapy was the introduction of the oral drug Sildenafil citrate (Viagra) in March 1998. NAMCS data on new drugs showed an estimated 2.6 million mentions of Viagra at physician office visits in 1999 and one-third of those mentions occurred during visits for a diagnosis other than ED. In older men, ED usually has a physical cause such as disease, injury, or side effects of drugs. Any disorder that causes injury to the nerves or impairs blood flow in the male organ has the potential to cause ED. Incidence increases with age: About 5 percent of 40 year-old men and between 15 to 25 percent of 65-year-old men experience ED. But it is not an inevitable part of aging. ED is treatable at any age and awareness of this fact has been growing. More men have been seeking help and returning to normal sexual activity because of improved, successful treatments for ED, most notably the Ayurvedic & Unani systems of medicine.

Since an erection requires a precise sequence of events, ED can occur when any of the events is disrupted. The sequence includes nerve impulses in the brain, spinal column, area around the male organ and response in muscles, fibrous tissues, veins, and arteries in and near the corpora cavernosa. Damage to nerves, arteries, smooth muscles and fibrous tissues, often as a result of disease, are the most common causes of ED. Diseases such as diabetes, kidney malfunction, chronic alcoholism, multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis, vascular disease and neurological disease—account for about 70 percent of ED cases. Between 35 and 50 percent of men with diabetes experience ED. Lifestyle choices that contribute to heart disease and vascular problems also raise the risk of erectile dysfunction. Smoking, being overweight and avoiding exercise are the possible causes of ED. Even surgery (especially radical prostate and bladder surgery for cancer) can injure nerves and arteries near the male organ, thereby causing ED. Injury to the male organ, spinal cord, prostate, bladder and pelvis can lead to ED by harming nerves, smooth muscles, arteries and fibrous tissues of the corpora cavernosa. In addition, many common medicines—blood pressure drugs, antihistamines, antidepressants, tranquilizers, appetite suppressants and cimetidine (an ulcer drug)—can produce ED as a side effect. Experts believe that psychological factor such as stress, anxiety, guilt, depression, low self-esteem and fear of sexual failure cause 10 to 20 percent of ED cases. Men with a physical cause for ED frequently experience the same sort of psychological reactions (stress, anxiety, guilt and depression etc.). Other possible causes are smoking, which affects blood flow in veins and arteries and hormonal abnormalities, such as not enough testosterone.

A prolonged or continuous erectile dysfunction can often point to an underlying medical advice and treatment. Otherwise it will destroy one's happy life, create rifts and tensions in the relationship between the life partners, leading to conflicts and emotional pain thereby paving way to end their lives by committing suicide.

Our cure for ED is a course of treatment consisting of rare Bhasma, Rasayanas and herbomineral combinations of Ayurvedic and Unani systems along with Yoga therapy system. Our treatment has proved to work effectively in innumerable cases resulting in complete recovery to normalcy. Once strong erections are restored they are almost long termed and there are no side effects.

We prescribe only branded medicines of reputed manufacturing companies, leaving no chance of mixing steroids or any other harmful agents in these medicines.

Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation (PE) means 'coming too quickly'. It's one of the commonest of all sexual problems. Approximately 40 per cent of total men face this problem 'always' or 'often' or 'sometimes'. It's more common in younger men, which is not surprising as there's a distinct tendency for it to improve with age. Men generally get better control, as they grow older. This problem is curable. Though not considered fatal, this problem makes people unhappy and frustrated and in several cases PE can threaten or even ruin a marriage - simply because it spoils the sex life of both partners.

Sometimes, the condition is so bad that the man cannot even manage to have intercourse because he invariably ejaculates before he gets into the vagina. This can be devastating for a man's self-confidence and it can be hugely frustrating and annoying for his partner too. However, most men merely find PE a considerable irritation - a condition that makes them ‘come’ soon after they enter their partner’s (say, after only one to two minutes), so that neither party reaches the climax of enjoyment and satisfaction. One of the major contributors towards this problem is wrong or misadventurous sex practice during younger days. Anxiety ('nervousness') too plays a part in many cases of PE. If you're nervous, you're likely to ‘come’ too quickly. That's why many males have discovered for themselves that a small amount of alcohol eases their nerves and makes them less likely to reach climax prematurely. But alcohol is not recommended as a treatment. In very mild cases (for instance, if you can 'last' a good five minutes but would like to last 10), there is probably no point in going to a doctor because you should be able to improve matters by simple 'distraction techniques'. This means turning your mind to something else when you sense that a climax is near. For instance, you can:

Think very hard about something totally unconcerned with sex.
Pinch yourself hard.
Bite the pillow.

Some men try to treat themselves with a local anesthetic gel. This product is advertised to the public as a good way to 'damp down' sexual sensation in the male organ. But the local anesthesia can 'dull' the sex sensation for the partner and secondly it can sometimes cause a distressing skin sensitivity reaction. In more severe cases, it is best to consult an expert for treatment. Ayurvedic and Unani systems of therapy are effectively treating this problem.

Naturoveda offers a treatment combining Ayurvedic, Unani and Yoga principles in the treatment of Premature Ejaculation with good results.

Retarded Ejaculation

The term 'retarded ejaculation' (RE) means inability of the man to reach a climax. However, in most of the cases, the sufferer can actually achieve orgasm during masturbation – but not during sexual intercourse. RE is the third most common male sexual disorder – after erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE). The old term for this condition was ‘ejaculatory incompetence' but that unfortunate expression is now being dropped because it suggested that the person was 'incompetent' in some way. So, most sex therapists now prefer to say ‘retarded ejaculation'. This disorder is not all that common, and nowhere near as frequently seen as the other two main male sexual problems. It tends to occur mainly in men who have been rather strictly brought up and who are very 'controlled' in their lives. Some of them have terrific ‘drive’ and detachment, and have risen almost to the top in their professions. They may have difficulty in showing emotions and in 'letting go'. Other possible causative factors, which have been identified by sexologists, include:

-Fear of causing a pregnancy.
-Fear that the vagina is ‘dirty’
-Over-strict religious upbringing.
-Latent gayness.

In his youth, a man may not feel that he has any problem and indeed may well assume that all other men are the same as him. When they first have intercourse, these guys are often very popular with their partners – for the simple reason that they can keep going for two or three hours! But when they get into a regular relationship, especially one in which the couple hopes to have children, RE can be a major problem. Both the man and woman may become sore and frustrated and the female partner often feels resentful (or even insulted) that her man does not ejaculate when they make love. Not surprisingly, it is common for men with RE to have had several broken relationships – because their partners have decided that they want somebody who can ‘come'. Sometimes the man seeks help after a divorce. More commonly, a couple may ask for treatment when they are getting desperate to have a baby. Very often, RE is found more to be a psychological problem. But there is one major exception. Ejaculation problems quite often occur suddenly in men who have had no previous difficulties but whom their doctors have recently put on certain medications, particularly antidepressants. In these cases, a change in medication will usually cure the problem. Excessive use of alcohol can also cause difficulty in ejaculation, same as in the case of some ‘recreational’ drugs. Serious spinal injuries can also create major problems to achieve ejaculation. They are outside the scope of this article but it is worth mentioning here that men who have this type of injury can ejaculate and can be blessed with children by means of electrical stimulation of the prostate area (‘electro-ejaculation’). Many available authentic records indicate that Ayurvedic, Unani and Yoga therapies had been used successfully for treatment of RE.

Retarded ejaculation is a frustrating condition for both partners. But with some expert help and a determination to persist with therapy – you can defeat it.

Short Male Genital Organ

Man gives importance to his male organ because this is an inseparable part of reproductivity through which generation after generation of people have come and the world went on growing. Male organ is the vital part of sex play, which is one of the renewable pleasures to mankind.

So a well-developed "male organ" according to age and growth of body is more essential to lead a meaningful life. A man with under grown genital organ falls into a state of guilt and inferiority complex.

However, one must remember that no medicine in the world can actually help to enhance the size of male organ. It is only the age old Ayurved, Unani and Yoga therapies that can create a hope and show the way for those men who feel ashamed of their under developed genital organ.

We at Naturoveda, prescribe effective treatment course to strengthen and facilitate for natural improvement of the male organ, without any side adverse effects. Normally males believe that the length of their organ plays important role in achieving sexual pleasure. But this is totally wrong. The basic rule of sex play lies on the strength of the organ and the time taken to reach climax.

Our panel of physicians analyzes the reason of short organ length and prescribes medicines accordingly. The active constituents of the prescribed medicines go through the body in many ways. These include oral consumption of herbal medicines, which gets absorbed by the digestive system and by application of oils over the skin, the constituents get absorbed in the body through the pores. There is no age limit for undertaking our treatment and to enjoy the God given sexual pleasures in life. With the help of Ayurvedic and Unani herbal therapies even aged Maharajas and Nawabs in earlier times had married young girls to demonstrate their vigor and vitality.

Our treatment course consists of rare Bhasmas, Rasayanas & Herbo-mineral combinations of Ayurvedic and Unani medicines along with Yoga therapy. This treatment has worked effectively in innumerable cases by increasing blood circulation in the male organ, which provides adequate strength and supports natural improvement of the organ. Once the desired result is achieved, it is almost permanent and there are no side or adverse effects.

Childlessness (Infertility)

Being born as human is a blessing and being able to reproduce is a double one. In our society, a woman, who fails to conceive and bear a child, undergoes an unbearable suffering. Such mental agony knows no barrier, no caste or creed, no religion or region. Infertility/childlessness causes great personal pains and distress. Most of such cases are hidden from the public gaze and that is why this topic is still not talked about openly.

The reasons for the lack of public support to the childless couple include the dismal ignorance about the causes of infertility and its treatment. Infertile couples are socially isolated and emotionally very vulnerable. More and more couples are showing up at fertility clinics these days in search of hope and eventual parenthood. Almost all the couples expect to have their own babies once they get married. But getting pregnant is like a game of odds or game of luck. It is impossible to predict when an individual couple will succeed in achieving pregnancy. There are many reasons for this including the fact that some eggs do not fertilize and some of the fertilized eggs do not grow well in the early developmental stage. However over a period of one year the chance of achieving a successful pregnancy is between 80% to 90%. In other words, 7 out of 8 couples will be on their way to becoming parents within a year. These are the normal "fertile" couples and the rest are labeled as "infertile".

If you have undergone sexual intercourse two or three times a week at about the time of ovulation without any form of birth control for a year or more and have not become pregnant, you meet the definition of being ‘infertile’. Women who have never conceived are said to have "primary infertility", while those women who have become pregnant at least once but are unable to conceive again are said to have "secondary infertility": The chances of achieving pregnancy for a couple in a given cycle depends upon many factors. The most important ones are:

            * With the growing age , as the biological clock ticks on, the    number of eggs and their quality start decreasing.
            * Frequency of intercourse: Couples who have intercourse less frequently have diminished chances of conceiving.
            * "Trying time," that is how long the couples have been trying to get pregnant. This is an important concept. Longer a couple has been trying to conceive without success, lesser are their chances of getting pregnant without medical help.
            * The presence of fertility problems.

Following are the conditions that require a woman and man to visit a doctor/ physician immediately when:

For Women:
-Periods occurring at three-week (or less) intervals
-Periods not occurring for longer than three months
            -Irregular periods
            -A history of pelvic infection
            -Two or more miscarriages
-Women over the age of 35, time is now running out

For Men:
            -Men who have prostate infections
-Man whose testes are not felt in the scrotum
-Men with a low sperm count

According to physicians of Naturoveda, if infertile couples had 300 years in which to breed, most of the wives would get pregnant with out any treatment at all. But it is not so and time available to conceive is limited, so the odds need to be improved. This is where medical treatment comes in. In the past, reason of infertility was imposed wholly and solely on the woman. Perhaps this was because the male psyche equated fertility with virility and viewed failure to father a child with shame. However, research today shows that 40% infertility emanates directly from the man. In modern medicine one can not find any reason of infertility. This is one of the reasons why the diagnosis of male infertility is so frustrating for both patients and doctors of modern medicine. Hence any treatment for male infertility does not have a high success rate besides unpleasant side effects. Whereas the time tested, age-old traditional Ayurved, Unani and Yoga therapies have evolved very effective treatment for infertility in male & female.

At Naturoveda, treatment is prescribed according to the individual requirements after careful analyzing the patient’s condition. For the last 10 years, lots of people were treated with positive results not only in India but also all over the Globe. On the onset of the new millennium, the modern medicine is losing relevance and herbal medicines are now the only hope for the childless couple. In fact many couples have experienced infertility and they have been treated successfully. Hence there is no need to remain frustrated and embarrassed any more.

Male Infertility

In the past, fertility specialists concentrated mainly on the woman when pregnancy failed to occur and she was blamed wholly and solely for the same. May be this was because the male psyche equated fertility with virility and considered failure to father a child with shame. Studies today however show that male infertility is increasing in frequency and 40 % of infertility emanates directly from man. In fact, the number of sperms that men are producing has dropped by almost half during the last 40 years according to several studies. The implications in the sperm decline can have far reaching effects for further generations.

The vast majority of men have simply no way of judging their fertility before getting married. Some men may however know that they have a fertility problem: for example- they may suffer from sexual problem of impotency, which prevents consummation of the marriage.

The most important test is a simple and inexpensive “Semen Analysis” and for this purpose semen sample should not be more than half an hour old after sexual abstinence for at least 2 to 4 days. If this test is done in ill-equipped laboratories, the result can be misleading. Any sperm count less than 20 million per ml is considered below normal and less than 10 million per ml is taken as very low sperm count. This deficiency in sperm count is called ‘oligospermia’. Some men have no sperm at all and this deficiency is identified as ‘azoospermia’. Semen in these patients appears absolutely normal. However on microscopic examination, the sperm count problem can be detected properly. Also sperm motility i.e. movement behavior of sperm cells is to be found out. Shape of the sperm plays important role. During ejaculation the semen spurts out as a liquid, which gels promptly. In next 30 minutes gel reliquefies to allow free motility to the sperm. If the gel consistency is thick or fails to liquefy, it indicates there may be some infection of the seminal vesicles and the prostate. The presence of Sugar (as Fructose) also needs to be examined because Sugar provides energy for sperm motility. Any absence of Sugar indicates possibility of blockade in the male reproductive tract.

Researchers are of the opinion that toxic chemicals in our environment are one of the causes for declining sperm counts and occupational hazards are also causing low sperm count. People get contaminated with the toxic chemicals via food chain due to the increasing use of harmful synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers in Agriculture. Those who are exposed to Heat and Toxic Chemicals in factories are more prone to declining sperm count. However there are more reasons other than environmental and occupational hazards that threaten male fertility. Some common medications prescribed by doctors of modern medicine have shown disastrous effect resulting in declining sperm count same as that happens on exposure to toxic chemicals. Besides this, too much consumption of coffee, cigarette, marijuana drugs and alcohol are also the culprits for male infertility.

Beyond semen analysis there are sperm anti bodies test, semen culture test, post coital test and bovine cervical mucus test. Some men possess antibodies which immobilize or kill the sperms and prevent them from swimming up towards the eggs. Ayurvedic and Unani systems of medicine successfully treat all time inabilities by activating the body mechanism to increase the sperm count, size and motility of semen etc.
Besides this, venereal diseases also affect male infertility. Impotency is the main culprit of infertility. This can be successfully treated through Ayurvedic, Unani and Yoga Therapies.

Thus the causes for male infertility are low sperm count, blockade & other impairments due to diseases, injury and sexual dysfunction such as impotency. However, one should not loose heart as combination of Ayurvedic, Unani and Yoga therapies has treated it successfully.

Masturbation

Masturbation is a deliberate stimulation of the genitals for pleasure i.e. to ejaculate semen with the help of hand and produce friction by to and fro movements till ejaculation is reached. Various other methods such as making coital movements against bed cloth, a pillow, pressing against some objects etc are also noticed. Men develop this habit due to bad company for the momentary physical enjoyment.

Gradually they get addicted and accustomed to this bad habit and it becomes difficult for them to get rid of it. They are not aware of the truth that this momentary enjoyment weakens them. When they get married, they do not enjoy their sex life fully. Too much of masturbation seriously affects the full development of genitals. This leads to mental and physical weakness and diminishes self-confidence. They ultimately become unsocial and develop short temperamental attitudes. In many cases excessive masturbation leads to frequent night discharge and passing semen before or after urination. Their digestive system weakens resulting in deteriorating health. To come out of this bad habit one has to develop a strong will power. If this habit becomes obsessive or compulsive then it is necessary to consult physician. By all means this habit must be given up completely to make one’s life happier and healthier.

Through Ayurvedic, Unani and Yoga systems of treatment, one can get rid of such a bad habit effectively.

Nocturnal Emissions

Most people stop urinating in their bed until the age of six (hopefully). Still many young teenage boys and even some adults wake up in the middle of the night with wet bed sheets and underpants. They experience something called nocturnal emissions or "wet dreams." Nocturnal emission is the technical term for the experience of having an orgasm and then ejaculating while sleeping. There is a difference between nocturnal orgasms and nocturnal emissions because males can have a nocturnal orgasm (a sexual climax) without ejaculating (an emission of fluids, including semen). Females have nocturnal orgasms as well but there is no emission .The important thing to understand is that there is nothing wrong with a male if he experiences a nocturnal orgasm or nocturnal emission, as these are normal and healthy experiences.

The only problem with a nocturnal emission is the wet spot left behind on pants. Normally males go through the process of puberty anytime starting between 10 and 12 years of age. During this stage, teenage boys start to produce sperm and gain the ability to ejaculate. It is at this time that most males experience nocturnal emissions sometimes even before they learn about masturbation. While sleeping the male's genital organ may get rubbed against the bed or he may unknowingly stimulate it himself. When this happens, he may become so sexually aroused that he gets an orgasm (when he is still asleep) along with a nocturnal emission.

A boy's first nocturnal emission tends to cause confusion and worry. Mostly parents hesitate to explain to their sons why do orgasms and ejaculations occur. Therefore, the first nocturnal emission is something that the adolescent boy is unfamiliar with. He may think something is wrong with his body: He may feel fear that he has urinated in his sleep. Most adolescents feel ashamed in telling their parents about their bed-wetting problem. The truth is that nocturnal orgasms and emissions are natural and the wet spot dries up quickly leaving a yellowish stain on the pant. Another confusing aspect of a boy's first nocturnal orgasm is the feeling of pleasure of arousal when it awakens him. If the boy has never experienced an orgasm before (either from masturbation or otherwise), these pleasurable feelings appear strange to him. Nocturnal orgasms may indeed lead the adolescents to try to experiment with masturbation in order to experience those sexual feelings again.

Teenage boys typically begin masturbating earlier than girls and do it more frequently which help them learn more about sexuality and sources of arousal. While most parents do not teach their children about orgasms, let alone "wet dreams," an adolescent's friends and peers may attempt to play the Sexpert role. While hearing his friends’ joke and tease about these things may help to alleviate some fears in the mind of the inexperienced boy. Adolescent males going through puberty tend to act like they know everything about sex, whereas in fact they know very little of it. Therefore if you are a young male and you are afraid of being ridiculed or teased because of your bed-wetting, you should not feel ashamed of it as now you know there is nothing wrong with it. More than likely, the boy who teases you might have experienced the same thing. Finally, if you haven't had nocturnal orgasms don’t worry about that either. It is not necessary that everybody will have nocturnal orgasms and some males don't experience it even at later stages. Don't expect too much from yourself especially if you are a younger teenager or preteen. Sexuality is something everybody gets in to experience, some may even have to wait longer than others do for their time to come.

All types of Pain:

Arthritis

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. In many parts of the world the disease is called rheumatism, named after the town where it was first detected. To the frustration of modern medical science, the disease remains a mystery even today. ‘Arthritis’ is not just one disease. The word means ‘inflammation of the joints’ and it includes its painful embrace in over 100 distant disease forms. Arthritis may be a mild swelling of a single joint which yields easily to a month of drug therapy, nutritional therapy or no therapy at all or it can be a vicious, agonizing condition that spreads through every joint in the body. It can be caused by bacteria, virus, by a disruption of body chemistry or too much stress.

The two most common forms of Arthritis, Osteoarthritis & Rheumatoid Arthritis are real mysteries of modern medicine of Allopathy. As such Osteoarthritis occurs due to wearing away of cartilage which Doctors call it just normal due to aging. Whereas it is a mere nuisance for some people and at the same time it causes crippling effect to others.
Similarly, Rheumatoid Arthritis follows such an erratic course that it may remain suppressed quietly for a number of years and then suddenly it flares up. It may spread progressively and cause complete disability. Arthritis in other words can be harsh, unpredictable, frustrating and a disease against which modern medical science has provided such strong drugs, which may aggravate the illness instead of controlling the disease. An Arthritis patient is in pain all the time and this affects his/ her personality. They are often in tense and have stiff joints. They have disturbed sleep, often irritated and not in a physical or mental state to cope with demands and stresses of life. Other family members have no other option but to adjust with the constant pain suffering arthritic member of their family.

There are more than hundred different types of Arthritis, some are with devastating effects on overall health. Once detected, careful diagnosis is important. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can help relieve pain and prevent later complications. Ayurvedic and Unani herbal medicines are the only treatments available for Arthritis today.

According to the U.S. National Arthritis foundation there are four major warning signs:
1.  Persistent pain & stiffness on a rising trend.
2.  Pain, tenderness or swelling in one or more joints.
3.  Recurrence of these symptoms especially when they involve more than one joint
4.  Recurrent or persistent pain & stiffness in the neck, lower back, knees & other Joints.

Females are more likely to have Arthritis than males. Scientists cannot explain why this happens but they do know that out of the 31 million adults and children in the States who have some form of Arthritis, more than 20 million are women. About 2,50,000 children have juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Out of them, girls have out numbered the boys. Some women develop Arthritis in their early 20’s or at a younger age. Rheumatoid Arthritis is the most serious type of Arthritis. If left untreated, it can lead to permanent joint deformities, disability and damage to the body’s vital organs.

Arthritis is an expensive disease and in U.S.A, it is the nation’s number one crippling disease. Arthritis takes its toll among families and individuals that live an inferior quality of life. In Business & Industry Circles, it is a costly factor due to absenteeism and loss of productivity. Modern medicine is unable to cure Arthritis and is only treating it with Painkillers and Steroids. But age old Ayurvedic and Unani systems, owing to their long existence, continuous enrichment and experience have come out with best treatment courses for all forms of Arthritis, for old and young alike. It is wrong to believe that Arthritis is not a serious disease. It is dangerous to believe that self-diagnosis and self-treatment work for Arthritis. It is also not true that Arthritis is only a disease of the old.

At Naturoveda Health World, we have a history of treating more than 5000 Arthritis cases with great success rate. Any person with symptoms of Arthritis may seek advice from us for treatment.

Knee Pain

Knees are the most easily injured part of the body. The largest and most complicated joint, the knee is used for everything from standing up, sitting, walking, running, etc. It's a weight-bearing joint that straightens, bends, twists and rotates. All these motions increase the risk of inflicting acute or overuse knee injuries.

Acute knee injuries (including torn ligaments and torn cartilage) are often caused by twisting of the knee or falling from a height, while playing sports and games which involve running, jumping and sudden stopping or turning. Most common sudden knee injuries are those caused by overuse or overload.

Muscle strain, tendonitis and bursitis may develop gradually over a period of time. Pain is often mild and intermittent in the beginning and worsens in due course of time. When muscles and tendons are stressed even slightly beyond their capabilities, Inflammation, which is part of the healing process, causes the pain. This tear must be given a chance to heal before subjected to the same activity to avoid overuse injury. Treat overuse injuries early to prevent chronic problems.

Knee pain is commonly caused by doing too much too soon when you haven't exercised for a long period of time - especially high-impact aerobics; walking, running or jumping on hard surfaces or uneven ground, excessive running up and down the stairs.

Knee osteoarthritis is a common cause of knee pain. Osteoarthritis is a form of arthritis involving degeneration of the cartilage. Exercise is vital to maintain strength and flexibility of muscles supporting the knee, which reduces the stress on the knee joint. The risk increases with age. People with knee osteoarthritis may also need to take pain medications and/or other complementary pain treatments.

Runner’s knee is a common cause of knee pain in young people (not just in runners). The pain is usually a diffuse pain behind the kneecap. Symptoms often worsen after climbing stairs, jumping, running or after a period of sitting. Stay away from high-impact activity if you come across such a situation.

Prevent knee pain by keeping the muscles that support your knees strong and flexible. Walk before you run - before you engage in a strenuous high impact activity such as jogging or running, try walking for a week. Warm up and stretch before work out. Give your body a chance to recover from exercise. If you do high impact activities take every other day off. Doing knee exercises to strengthen and stretch the muscles that support the knee are vital for knee pain and injury prevention. Proper footwear is also important especially if walking or running on hard surfaces. Keep your weight under control. By reducing one's weight, stress on the knee joints gets decreased.

Most knee conditions respond to a combination of non-invasive treatments such as applying heat or cold, temporarily restraining from activities that aggravate pain and medications to target pain and inflammation. Exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the knee help reduce stress on the knee joint and prevent re-injury.

Ayurved, Unani and Yoga therapies have proved to work effectively for the treatment of knee pain.

Sciatica

Sciatica is a symptom of a problem with the sciatic nerve. This nerve originates from the lumbar spine and travels through lower back and provides innervations to muscles of buttocks, back of thigh, knee and lower leg. If this nerve is impinged due to lumbar disc herniation or compression or fracture of pelvis, sciatica is manifested in the regions of its nerve supply. Pain, weakness, tingling sensations, numbness are the commonest symptoms associated with sciatica.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder is also known as adhesive capsulitis. It is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in shoulder joint. As the condition worsens, shoulder's range of motion becomes markedly reduced. Frozen shoulder usually affects one shoulder at a time, although some people may eventually develop this problem in the opposite shoulder also.

We offer treatments with self-care efforts. Most people with frozen shoulder eventually regain nearly full shoulder range of motion and strength as signs and symptoms improve.

Cervical/Lumbar Spondylitis

Spondylitis is a common degenerative condition of the cervical (neck)/ lumbar (lower back) spine that most likely is caused by ageing, repetitive stress injury due to wrong body postures. It is mostly seen in working professionals from IT and BPO sectors who have long sitting hours. It can cause pain, dizziness, vomiting and weakness in shoulders, upper limbs and lower back with persistent stiffness.

Slipped Disc

Also called: Herniated/ compressed / Herniated intervertebral / Prolapsed/Ruptured disc

The spine consists of 26 vertebras arranged in a special manner. A soft gelatinous substance (intervertebral disc) provides cushioning and support to it. If this disc is displaced or ruptured it can cause moderate - severe back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, numbness, tingling sensation of limbs, muscle spasms and weakness.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

It is a type of arthritis of spine. It is an autoimmune disorder that causes back pain, stiffness and later disability. The discs between the vertebrae get swollen up and cause limitation in the movement. It starts in late adolescence. With time, the stiffness increases and the vertebrae fuse together. It may worsen or improve or stop on its own.

Stomach Disorders:

Constipation

The most common disorder is perhaps Constipation. Those leading an easy, sedentary life and consuming rich food are more prone to it than others.

Usually chronic constipation is a result of faulty diet and life style. Intake of refined and rich foods deficient in vitamins and minerals, insufficient intake of water, intake of large quantity of meat, excessive use of strong tea and coffee, insufficient chewing, overeating and wrong habits of eating and drinking, all contribute to poor bowel functions. Other causes of constipation are faulty and irregular habit of defecation, frequent use of allopathic purgatives, weakness of abdominal muscles due to sedentary habits, lack of physical exercise, emotional stress and tension.

The main symptom of this disorder is the urge to pass stool but inability to do so. If constipation continues for some days, it may lead to a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen and later headaches, lethargy, loss of appetite and total apathy. The inability of the intestine to expel the waste matter leads to flatulence. Constipation continuing for a long period may lead to distention of the stomach and severe discomfort.

Dyspepsia

Dyspepsia or indigestion is the term applied to difficulty in digesting food.

Dyspepsia may be associated with pain in the stomach, flatulence, eructation, foul taste in the mouth, heartburn and feeling of discomfort. There is also loss of appetite in some cases of dyspepsia. Irregular food habits in the form of overeating or eating at the wrong time or taking less fibrous food leads to indigestion.

Gastritis

Gastritis or inflammation of the stomach is a troublesome condition, which eventually gives rise to many life-threatening complications if not treated in time.

The most common cause of gastritis is overeating and excessive intake of alcohol. Infections like influenza, food poisoning, toxins of gout and consumption of acidic and alkaline food items also give rise to gastritis. Constipation tends to aggravate the condition more than any other disorder.

The chief symptoms are - Loss of appetite, nausea, headache and giddiness. There is also a general feeling of discomfort in the stomach, sour eructation and frequent vomiting. If the disease becomes chronic, it may lead to anemia and consequently emaciation.

Ulcers of the Stomach

The term peptic ulcer is a general term applied to all ulcers in the stomach.Only those persons who are affected with a vatika type of constitution are prone to getting ulcers of the stomach. Aggravation of the vata dosha in the body gives rise to ulcers either in the stomach or duodenum.

The common causes of peptic ulcers are smoking, stress, tension, spicy food, hereditary, alcohol and infection.
Ulcers may be truly asymptomatic or may cause mild discomfort or severe abdominal pain. Most common symptom is localized epigastric pain. The ulcer results in gradual weight loss due to impairment of digestion and defective absorption of food. Pain makes the patient irritable. Sometimes the ulcer may bleed and mix with the stools or in severe cases, the blood may come through the mouth.

Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease occurring in the whole or any part of the colon (large intestine). The exact cause is unknown but dietary, genetic, immunological and psychological factors have all been implicated.

Psychological disturbances are largely responsible for ulcerative colitis. In it, the rectum is usually inflamed. The mucosa of intestine gets swollen and small red bleeding points are seen. In case of long-standing disease, size of colon is shortened and narrowed with disappearance of usual folds.

Principal symptom is diarrhea with loose bloody stools containing mucous and pus. Lower abdominal discomfort, fever and pain often accompany defecation. Fever, weight loss and even rectal bleeding is seen in acute cases.

Female Diseases:

Amenorrhoea and Dysmenorrhoea

Amenorrhoea refers to an abnormal absence of menstruation or scanty discharge. Dysmenorrhoea is the term given to painful or difficult menstruation.

Scanty discharge of menstrual blood may be due to anemia or general health or due to serious disease like TB, Bright’s disease or malaria of prolonged nature. Difficult or painful menstruation is due to irritation in the ovary and inflammation of various internal organs like the uterus, the ovaries or the fallopian tubes. Sometimes, the disorder is due to nervous causes, in which there are spasmodic pains.

In cases of scanty discharge of menstrual blood, the main cause should be diagnosed and removed. If it is due to anemia, then treatment for anemia is the treatment of Amenorrhoea. In cases where the exact cause is not known, general tonics and remedies for improving the health of the patient should be administered.

Menorrhagia and Metrorrhagia

Excessive discharge of blood during menstruation is known as Menorrhagia but when there is bleeding at irregular intervals, it is termed as Metrorrhagia.

These conditions may arise due to imbalance of hormones which is caused by the aggravation of pitta in the body. Abnormal growths in the uterus or other organ may also produce profuse bleeding. If bleeding continues for a long time, there may be giddiness, headache, pain and restlessness.Menstruation may start with pain in the abdomen, back or the hips. The flow may be excessive, leaving the patient extremely weak.

Leucorrhoea

Leucorrhoea is a condition in which there is a whitish discharge from the vagina. It may be thick, viscid and foul smelling.

The most common causes are vaginal infection, hormonal and metabolic disorders. It can also be due to inflammation of the womb following childbirth, displacement of the uterus or gonorrhea. Among young females it may be due to threadworms infection and lack of cleanliness. Along with the whitish discharge there is weakness as well as pain in the lumbar region and the calves. In chronic form leucorrhoea causes irritability. The patient develops black patches under the eyes.

Skin & Hair Problems:

Eczema

Eczema in Ayurved is a superficial disease of the skin and is of an inflammatory nature. It is more often known as dermatitis or inflammation of the skin.

The disease may be genetic in origin. Young adults of both the sexes are usually affected. It is more common in summers.

According to the symptoms it can be classified in three main types-acute, subacute and chronic. All the three phases may coexist simultaneously. Acute redness and swelling are usually with an ill-defined border. Papules, large blisters, vesicles and scaling are seen.

Sub acute redness and crusting are present without extreme swelling.

Chronic eczema is less vesicular, scalier. Skin gets pigmented, thickened and with fissures.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition. There are five types, each with unique signs and symptoms. It appears as patches of raised, reddish skin covered by silvery-white scale. These patches or plaques frequently form on the elbows, knees, lower back and scalp. However, the plaques can occur anywhere on the body. Some people also have joint related problems (psoriatic arthritis) and swelling. Psoriasis is a chronic, meaning lifelong condition because there is no cure in modern medicine.

Acne /Pimples

Acne occurs when the follicles under the skin get clogged up due to excessive secretion of sebum (lubricates the hair). This secretion gets infected by bacteria and other pathogens leading to a painful, pus filled eruption on skin. This breaks on its own and leads to scars on the face. It is common with teenagers and youngsters due to hormonal changes during early teenage years. Stress can worsen the condition.

Leucoderma or Vitiligo

Leucoderma is skin condition characterized by gradual decrease of melanin pigment from the skin layers, which results in white patches. The patches look ugly especially in whitish or dark complexioned persons. The condition doesn't cause any organic harm.

The primary causes of Leucoderma are mental worry, chronic or acute gastric disorders, impaired hepatic functions, hereditary, typhoid, worm infestation, defective perspiration mechanism and burn injuries.

The disease is characterized by the formation of white patches on the skin. The problem usually starts with a small white spot, which soon spreads into patches. These patches are pale in the beginning but become whiter with the passage of time due to loss of melanin pigments.

Gray hair, Hair fall, Dandruff

Hair is an integral part of the vanity in men and women. Almost all people at one stage of life suffer from some hair problems like graying of hair,hair-fall,dandruff and baldness.

Malnutrition and deficiency of essential elements like zinc and iron are the usual causes of hair loss. Patchy baldness is a common manifestation of severe seborrhoeic dermatitis. Dandruff occurs as a result of unclean habits, hard shampoos, emotional problems and exposure to severe cold and excessive intake of oily, heavy and sweet foods.

Itching is a common symptom of dandruff. There are no obvious signs of graying of hair except whole gray hairs. Premature graying is usually due to lack of essential nutrients like Magnesium, Copper, Iron and Zinc. Folic acid and Vitamin B6 play an important role in preventing hair loss and graying of hair. Hair dyes and hair dryers promote hair loss. Instead of chemical hair dyes, herbal hair dyes are very safe and effective. Heredity is the most common factor of baldness. Often hair loss is a symptom of some major diseases like diabetes, typhoid, sinusitis and anaemia.

Metabolic Disorders:

Diabetes

Diabetes represents a failure of the body's system in carbohydrate metabolism. When we eat carbohydrates, glucose (blood sugar) is produced and either used immediately or stored for later use. Stored glucose is released into the blood stream whenever we need an added energy boost. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, regulates the level of glucose. As a result, about 30% of diabetics need injections of insulin to stay alive. The category of diabetes has evolved over the centuries as clinical observations and physiological investigations have distinguished among different varieties. The Greek word diabetes literally means“a passer through” or "a siphon".

The condition was well known in ancient times and recognized by its polyuria and thirst often associated with emaciation. In 1674, Thomas Wills noted the sweet taste of the urine in some cases, making possible the first major sub division of the category into mellitus and insipidus varieties. Diabetes mellitus is defined as "a disorder of nutrition” in which sugar accumulates in the blood and is excreted in the urine, the daily amount of which is greatly increased. In comparison to people with no weight problem, obese people are likely to be three times more prone to become diabetic.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes in a nutshell can be termed as a disease in which the body does not produce or utilize insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone that allows blood glucose/sugar to enter the cells of the body and be used for energy. It is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy required for daily life.

How is it caused?

The worst part about diabetes is that there are no set rules that cause diabetes. It is generally believed that heredity and physical factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play key roles. But the truth is that very often the most active health conscious even might fall prey to diabetes. Type I and Type II are the usual categories of diabetes. However there exists a third type of diabetes that affects women, known as gestational diabetes.

Type I
Formerly known as insulin dependent, this is an autoimmune disease in which the body does not produce any insulin. This type usually begins during childhood or adolescent age. People with type I diabetes must take daily insulin injections to stay alive. Type I diabetes accounts for 5to10 percent of diabetic cases. There are two forms of type1. Immune mediated diabetes mellitus results from an autoimmune process in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin producing cells of the pancreas. Since glucose cannot enter the cells, it builds up in the blood and the body's cells literally starve to death. The second, idiopathic type I refers to rare forms of the disease that has no known cause. Greater risk for type I diabetes is in siblings of people with type I diabetes. The main problem faced with type I diabetes are hypoglycemia or low blood sugar, which sometimes is a reaction of insulin injection. This occurs when your blood sugar drips too low. This problem can be over come by immediately consuming some sugar (such as 3 glucose tablets, 6 ounces of regular soda or 5 to 6 lifesavers). Hyperglycemia or high blood sugar is another problem that occurs in this category. This occurs when diabetes if not regularly monitored and controlled can ultimately lead to ketoacidosis or diabetic coma.

Type II
A metabolic disorder resulting from the body's inability to produce enough insulin or inefficient utilisation of insulin. It is the most common form of the disease occurring when the individual reaches mid forties. Type II diabetes accounts for 90to95 percent of diabetic cases. This type of diabetes runs down to the next generations in a family. A person can inherit a tendency to get affected by type II diabetes. But it usually takes another factor such as obesity to invite the disease. Those over the age of 45 with a family history of diabetes are prone to this type of diabetes. Also people who are overweight and who do not exercise regularly are more susceptible to this disease.

Gestational diabetes:

This type of diabetes develops in 2 to 5 percent of all pregnancies but disappears when the pregnancy is over. This type also affects those who have had a baby weighing 9 pounds or more at birth. Unfortunately women who have had gestational diabetes are at an increased risk for getting affected with type II diabetes at a later stage.

Other specific types:

Sometimes diabetes is caused due to surgery drugs, malnutrition, and infections or as a result of specific genetic syndromes and other illness.

Ayurveda, Unani, Yoga and Diabetes:

Modern medicine holds that Diabetes is such a disorder, which cannot be cured but only controlled. Once affected a person is bound to live with it for life long. Moreover regular consumption of these medicines gives rise to serious side effects which need additional medication to suppress or control these adverse effects.

Whereas in Naturovedic treatment (a unique combination of Ayurved, Unani and Yoga Therapies), one can be immensely benefited. Obesity

During the past 20 years, the problem of obesity among adults has risen significantly around the world. Many new researches on this problem confirm that over 80 million people are obese. This increase is not limited to adults. The percentage of young people who are overweight has more than tripled since 1980. Presently, over 9 million of children and adolescents between 6 and 19 years are overweight.

Overweight or obesity increases the risk of inviting many diseases such as:

Hypertension
Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)
Type II diabetes
Coronary heart disease
Stroke
Gallbladder disease
Osteoarthritis
Sleep apnoea and respiratory problems
Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)

Although WHO has declared alleviation of obesity as one of its main health objectives, current data indicates that the situation is worsening further.

Obesity and overweight are chronic conditions. Overall there are a variety of factors that play a role in obesity. This makes it a complex health issue to address. Overweight and obesity result from an energy imbalance. This involves eating too many calories with consistent lesser physical activity. Thus Obesity is caused due to metabolic, behavioral, environmental changes besides hereditary, cultural and socioeconomic conditions or combination of these factors.

TYPES OF Obesity

The fat distribution in the body is identified between the two types of obesity: Android and Gynoid.

Android: -
Android is the male type of obesity where excess fat is marked in the upper half of the body. It can be compared with the shape of an apple. The shoulders, face, arms, neck, chest & upper portion of the abdomen are bloated. The stomach gives a stiff appearance. So also the arms, shoulders & breast. The back appears erect with a compressed neck and a protruding chest because of the bulk fat deposited in the stomach. The lower portion of the body, the hips, thighs & legs are thinner beyond proportion in comparison with the upper part. In these persons, the vital organs affected will be mostly the heart, liver, kidneys & lungs. Though this type of obesity is found more in males it is common in females too. Those females who are under hormone treatment for their menstrual abnormalities or after childbirth are more prone to this type of obesity. It occurs in females around menopause due to thyroid gland's functional disturbance. In this type, the excess of fat is less likely to get reduced especially in females than males. Android type of obesity is a major risk for heart damage & heart disease due to high cholesterol.

Gynoid: - In this type, the lower part of the body has the extra fat. This type of obesity is also common to both sexes though females are more affected. Gynoid type of obesity can be well compared with the shape of pears. The flesh is somewhat flabby in the abdomen, thighs, buttocks & legs. The face & neck mostly give a normal appearance. In some persons, the cheeks may be drawn too. As these persons grow old, the whole figure assumes a stooping posture and the spine is never erect due to the heavy hips and thighs. The vital organs affected mostly are the kidneys, uterus, intestines, bladder & bowels. But the functions of these organs some times have a direct effect on the heart. In this type of obesity, exercises or dieting do not help appreciably in reducing weight. Here Ayurvedic & Unani herbal medicines are the only hope. One should have more patience & undertake proper treatment to achieve the goal of reducing weight & preventing further weight again.

The third type: -Besides android & gynoid, there is one more type of obesity. Some people do not belong to any of the above type of obesity. Their whole body from head to toe looks like a barrel. Their gait is more like rolling rather than walking. The fat tissues in their body hinder the movement of all the internal organs & consequently affect their brisk functioning. For them any exercise is difficult due to the enormous size of the body. So such persons should follow a strict diet and do plenty of exercises. Ayurved, Unani  & Yoga therapies have helped successfully in reducing weight.

Through Naturovedic Treatment (a unique combination of Ayurved, Unani and Yoga therapies), thousands of obese people have reduced their weight and are now carrying on with their normal life without any side effects.

Emaciation

If obesity is disliked by all those who are figure conscious, the extremely thin people equally dislike being thin. Such people wish to put on weight. It is a fact that anything that is either in excess or deficient causes disease if left uncontrolled. While obesity causes diseases of vital organs of the body which are degenerative and crippling in origin, emaciation also causes infectious & febrile diseases. That is why someone has rightly said, "life is full of extremes & contrasts". Two of mankind's most pressing problems seem to be how to prevent half the population from starving & the other half from getting overweight.

Thinness or emaciation is the condition when there is weight loss either gradually or suddenly. Active illnesses as in any fever like typhoid, measles make one thinner. In such cases once complete cure of the disease takes place and normal eating habits & activities are resumed, the lost weight is usually regained.

There are three types of people who are extremely thin.

1.    Those who eat well & stay thin.
2.    Those who cannot digest whatever they eat and inspite of a good living because of
       illness or deficiencies remain thin.
3.    Those who are undernourished & over worked.

First Type of Emaciation : -Some children are born thin inheriting their parents’ physical built. This can however, not be taken as a rule as some times, we can even see very thin children born to stout parents. If the child has a good appetite and is also quite active he/she may remain lean & healthy in spite of being adequately fed. In such cases whatever the child consumes gets digested well and he/she remains very energetic throughout the day. Due to this reason the weight of the child remains constant. This type of thinness therefore need not be a cause for worry at all.

Second Type of Emaciation: -In very young children sometimes there are severe deficiencies like Vitamin, Minerals etc. They fall sick very often or suffer from some progressive illness, physical or mental and keep on losing weight steadily. No amount of tonic and special nutritional food can make them gain weight. The resultant low resistance of the body invites diseases leading to emaciation.

Some people suffering from progressive illness or chronic disorders fail to gain weight in spite of rest & good food. In adults when there is severe anemia caused by worms especially hook worms, emaciation is inevitable. Any attempt to make them gain weight will not be successful without expelling the worms. An Ayurvedic and Unani herbal treatment through natural methods can bring almost a complete cure & general improvement in the condition of the sufferer and weight gain can be achieved gradually.

In some young children, appetite is very good but they eat like grown ups which may seem to be abnormal. The quantity of the stools they pass is also above normal. In spite of this, they keep on losing weight & remain extremely thin. The main cause for thinness & fatigue is that their intestines are infested with worms. Unless the worms are eliminated such children will remain weak & thin.

Third Type of Emaciation: - Poor eating habit or having low nutritional food combined with hard work beyond the enduring capacity of the body results in thinness. When thin people lack good health or suffer from diseases causing further weight loss, they experience exhaustion, weakness in their limbs, lack of appetite (in some cases due to poor digestion). They like to lie down or sleep all the time or suffer with extreme wakefulness and insomnia, headache, giddiness etc. They get physical & mental fatigue too early and finally lose interest in any activity. Even while walking and ascending stairs they get induced violent palpitation of their heart.

Respiratory Problems:

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is characterized by inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which carry air to the lungs. This disease is common in cold climate but may strike anywhere. Risk of this disease is more in allergic patients.

Smoking, dusty conditions, cold atmosphere, wrong feeding habits and high intake of white bread, meat, sugar, porridge etc. especially in winter, results in clogging of bronchial tubes.

There is inflammation of mucous membrane of the bronchi to which phlegm adheres and there is difficulty in expelling it. Due to viscid phlegm there is difficulty in breathing and the lungs are starved of air. In its acute form, bronchitis may result in high temperature, breathlessness and loss of appetite.
