Dandruff is a common scalp disorder affecting almost half of the human population. It involves shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. As skin cells die, a small amount of flaking is normal. However, some people may experience unusually severe flaking either chronically or as a result of certain triggers. Although dandruff is not contagious and is rarely serious, it can be embarrassing and sometimes difficult to treat. The problem can have traumatic effects on our confidence level, indicating treatment for both psychological and physiological reasons. Therefore, we need to be aware of its causes and solution.  Dandruff is a common chronic scalp condition marked by flaking of dead skin from the scalp. An itchy scalp and flakiness are the two universal symptoms. White, oily looking flakes of dead skin dot your hair and shoulders. It can also be accompanied by redness and irritation. The severity may fluctuate with season – often worsening in winter. Even newborns and infants can be affected by dandruff.
